Our History

The Staffing Cooperative builds and acquires businesses that center people closest to the problem of economic and social oppression. We see that as returning citizens (formerly incarcerated individuals), people of color, LGBTQ+ people, migrant workers, people with disabilities, the homeless, and veterans.

Founded in Baltimore, Maryland, The Staffing Cooperative is a worker-owned network of human-centered businesses. We provide part-time, full-time, and per-project work opportunities for our members. We promote access to employment while maintaining an inclusive organizational structure. We uplift people closest to the problem through ownership of work.

We currently have two brands

Core Staffing, placing returning citizens in the light industrial, transportation, and food service industries.

Tribe, an on-demand staffing platform for tech and creative talent.

We have developed strong partnerships with traditional workforce non-profits, social enterprises, and corporate customers. Our model of empowerment centers professional and personal development. Our members earn equity, govern the business, access cooperative support services, and earn a living wage. The ultimate goal — financial liberation and social mobility.
